THE SPIRIT OF RAMADAN SEPTEMBER 13th

An exhibition jointly staged by BRLSI, Bath Islamic Society, The Bath Mosque, Bath Spa University and members of the University of Bath will open on September 13th. It will run in the Breton Room until September 30th from 10:00am to 4:00pm. It will aim to explain aspects of Islam from the point of view of the ordinary U.K. citizen who is a Muslim. It will highlight the general spirit of Islam, tolerance, peace, humanity and brotherhood, the reasons why Muslims fast and why the month is so important to the spiritual life of the faithful.

The exhibition will open at 11:00am on September 13th with a short talk by the Imam, Rashad Azami, from The Bath Mosque, entitled “The Spirit of Ramadan” followed by a discussion with representatives of the Muslim community. The opening and the exhibition are open to all.

In the evening at 7:30pm in the Jenyns Room Professor Iftikar Malik from Bath Spa University will give a talk ‘Britain and Islam: Partners or Antagonists?’ followed by a discussion. The talk will look at the early historical connections as well as focusing on the current situation, with information based on scholarly studies and opinion surveys.

ARE YOU PROUD OF BATH AND LIKE SHOWING IT OFF?

In September the Institution is launching a new walking trail starting from Queen Square. The idea is to introduce visitors and residents to Bath's many connections with the history of science. Guides are needed to conduct the tours. All volunteers will receive training and no previous knowledge will be assumed. So if you like showing off the city and enjoy sharing knowledge contact the BRLSI office or marketing@brlsi.org.
