Hidden Treasures of Genomes rescheduled to July 14th
Prof Chris Ponting’s lecture The Hidden Treasures of Genomes— Adventures in DNA Archaeology has been rescheduled from Friday June 26th to Tuesday July 14th 2009. Prof Ponting, who is Professor of Bioinformatics at Oxford University, originally trained as a particle physicist, switched to biology after becoming fascinated by genes, and today is a leader in the use of computers to identify the genetic origin of diseases and differences between species. He contributed to the Human Genome Project, as well the sequencing of other species.

His lecture will focus on  the work of ‘DNA archaeologists’ who have recently unearthed the evolutionary heritage of the Platypus, and used comparisons with those of animals and birds to identify the genetic changes that distinguish species from each other.

Tickets for this lecture can be booked online (click the ‘Book Now’ logo). Tickets already booked for June 26th will, of course, be valid for the 14th July.
