CONVENOR:
Mark O’Sullivan

DIARY 2008

Background

The Queen Square Readers' Group read about a book a month in 2005-06, making selections only a little ahead so as to keep choices fresh. Those coming to meetings were asked to have read the relevant book fairly recently.

Books read included:
  • The Summer Book by Tove Jansson
  • The Marsh Arabs by Wilfred Thesiger
  • The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon
  • Watching the English by Kate Fox
  • The Abyssinian by Jean-Christophe Rufin
  • The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula le Guin
  • Under the Net by Iris Murdoch
  • From the Land of Green Ghosts by Pascal Khoo Thwe (tying in with a talk given by the author to the Literature and Humanities Group)
  • Tales from the Thousand and One Nights,
  • Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte,
  • Ice by Anna Kavan
  • and
  • The Innocent Anthropologist by Nigel Barley

News

Attendance became poor in the course of 2006, and in 2007 the Joint Convenors decided that there would be no further meetings for the moment. Those interested in reviving the group are cordially invited to contact Mark O’Sullivan at the number below.
